Progress!

Not much, but hey, I'll take any. I managed to win from the Many Faces of Go on level 3! Not only that, but it was a bigger win, around 30 points. Maybe there is hope for me after all. I keep alternating between confidence that of course I can reach first dan level by August and total panic about what I got myself into. What was I thinking? For now I couldn't even hold on to my 15k rating on KGS!

Oh well, at least studying go is keeping me out of trouble :-)

Don't worry too much about KGS ranks. Mine managed to get up and down on its own volution in a matter of a few days. Also, KGS is usually played faster than when you play in front of someone and you can take your time to analyze your moves.

I like the Many Faces of Go program, but as people use to say, if you play a program too much you'll learn bad habits that work with it. I'd love to be a shodan, but I realize that I lack the time needed to do it. The best advice I've received is to play a game every day, and review it (even if it's on your own). Life and death problems, the kind you read all the way to the end, and never play anything helps.

Anyway, good luck! If you get to be shodan before me, please teach me!!!

i wouldnt play too many games against computers if i were you. with them you can essentially get away with just about anything. players on the other hand tend to punish your bad moves alot more. i would stick with playing actual opponents if i were you

Good luck on your shodan challenge :) It really takes a lot of work to reach shodan, and I would suggest you play real people instead of computers at this level so you don't have to spend alot of time later trying to unlearn all the bad habits that you get from playing computers.
