Now What?

Today I played Chinese opening and black and at move 10 white surprised me. While I was thinking about the right reply, white resigned so I didn't get to try out anything.

What do you think would be best move for black now?

I like P2, and letting white figure out what to do next.

I like p2 too.

I tried to research the corner position on gobase, it emerged 5 times and p2 was always the answer.
None of the occurrencies came from a chinese fuseki. Two times there was a black stone in q8 (instead of r9), in the others no pincer was involved.

Thanks for the ideas.
Interesting.
I had been considering P3, or maybe simply connect at O2 and see what white does. But I like P2 too.

Maybe I'm just not good enough, but P2 seems bad... what do you do after white atari?

My first instinct was p3 too. White will now want to escape, I imagine. If White s3, Black gets a sente move on White, strengthening himself whilst theatening White. If white tries to escape, I feel the pincer is too far away to press, and the bottom Black group is too strong, especially since there is s3 to play now.

Hi K,

I was thinking about this post and decided to analyse the position here: http://gogameguru.com/5-tips-dealing-unexpected-moves-go/

There are also some general ideas for dealing with surprise. Let me know what you think! :)
